Lead-to-Customer Rate Calculator

Lead-to-Customer Rate measures how much of the funnel's top actually turns into revenue, the number that connects lead generation to real business results.

Lead-to-Customer Rate

5.0%

What This Means

The share of leads that actually become paying customers, the number that turns a lead-gen funnel into real revenue.

The Formula

Lead-to-Customer Rate = (New Customers / Total Leads) × 100

Why It Matters

A high volume of leads means little if very few convert, so this rate is often the clearest signal of whether a lead source or sales process is actually working. Tracking it by channel frequently reveals that the cheapest leads on a cost-per-lead basis are also the least likely to close.

Example

A business generates 500 leads in a quarter and closes 25 as paying customers. Lead-to-Customer Rate is (25 divided by 500) times 100, which equals 5%.

Frequently Asked Questions

  • It varies widely by industry, deal size, and lead source, so it's most useful tracked as a trend and compared across channels rather than against an external benchmark.

  • Poor lead qualification at the top of funnel, a slow or inconsistent sales follow-up process, and a mismatch between what attracted the lead and what's actually being sold are the most common causes.
